An infrared heater is an object that has a higher degree of temperature and it transfers energy from itself to another body which has lower temperature. The transference of energy takes place by electromagnetic radiation. But the electromagnetic radiation depends on a number of factors. It depends on the various factors like the emitting body’s temperature. The infrared radiation has a wavelength which has a range of 780 nm to 1 mm. Stefan-Boltzmann Law expresses the relationship between the wavelength and temperature. However, about the infrared heater it can be said that it does not need to be in bodily contact to transfer its energy.

The infrared heaters can be classified into several types depending on the several wavelength bands. Depending on the energy emission, the infrared heater is divided into various wavelengths ranges. The bright infrared heater is generally the one which emits rays whose wavelength ranges from 780 nm to 1400 nm. The infrared heater with a wavelength ranging from1400 nm and 3000 nm is called medium. The dark emitter or the far infrared heater is those which have wavelength ranging above 3000 nm.
The infrared heater finds a number of uses. One of the most interesting facts about infrared heater construction is that that a flame emission is used for making it like a heated matrix or soot or a filament which is electrically heated is used as a source of an emitting body. If an infrared lamp is used which is basically an electrically heated infrared heater, then a glass tube of quartz is used for making the filament and it is heat resistant. The quartz glass tube is filled with inert gas like halogen and others, depending on the temperature of the filament. This is done to prevent the filament from degrading. However the principle construction and materials required for these emitters is the same as that required for the light bulbs. Tungsten wire is the most commonly used material for making filaments that are required in the construction of the electrical infrared heaters. The tungsten wire is coiled surface area. However, there are low temperature alternatives for tungsten as well and these include alloys of carbon, iron, aluminium, and chromium. These are the elements of infrared heater. For the infrared heaters of industrial use, gold coating is used on the quartz tube. Gold has a good resistance for oxidation.
There are several types of infrared heaters. The infrared heaters mainly find use in the infrared modules where a number of heaters are combined to produce more amount of heat. The efficiency of infrared heaters can be said to be 100% as all the electrical energy is converted into heat completely. The infrared heaters are used in the industrial manufacturing processes. These can include the pre heating of plastics, welding, glass processing, and cooking and browning of foods. However the products are required to be kept in certain environment and certain temperatures. These are required in the zoos for the animals and also are required in the veterinary clinics. It is mainly useful for the tropical birds and the lizards in the zoos.
